چکیده

Introduction Complete heart block rarely occurs in patients o50 years of age and is less common during pregnancy. It is important to establish that symptoms are related to the heart block, and the management of the condition may be challenging. We present a case of symptomatic complete heart block developing during pregnancy and a treatment strategy minimizing fetal exposure to ionizing radiation.

Implantation of a dual-chamber permanent pacemaker in a pregnant patient guided by intracardiac echocardiography and electroanatomic mapping

Introduction Fluoroscopy has traditionally been the primary cardiac imaging modality to guide transvenous permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantations. This entails radiation exposure, which is often at a modest dose for individual patients but can be potentially hazardous to operators after cumulative doses. In patients who are pregnant, fluoroscopy is considered contraindicated. Many authors have ...

Utility of the NavX® Electroanatomic Mapping System for Permanent Pacemaker Implantation in a Pregnant Patient with Chagas Disease

Chagas disease is a highly prevalent zoonosis in Mexico, Central, and South America. Early cardiac involvement is one of the most serious complications of this disease, and conduction disturbances may occur at an early age. We describe a young pregnant woman with Chagas disease and a high degree atrioventricular block, who required implantation of a permanent dual chamber pacemaker. Using an el...

Transvenous nonfluoroscopic pacemaker implantation during pregnancy guided by 3-dimensional electroanatomic mapping

Introduction Patients with congenital heart disease are at ongoing risk of developing both bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhythmias decades after surgical repair. Rarely, arrhythmias can be exacerbated during pregnancy and require emergent intervention. Here, we report unique experience with nonfluoroscopic pacemaker implantation during pregnancy. Ionizing radiation, even in low doses, is associat...

Permanent pacemaker implantation without fluoroscopy in a pregnant woman with complete atrioventricular block: A case report

A 26-year-old pregnant woman in her first trimester presented with progressive fatigue. Her Electrocardiogram showed second degree heart block (Mobitz type II) with intermittent complete heart block. We decided to proceed with dual-chamber permanent pacemaker implantation using CARTO mapping system to avoid fluoroscopy exposure. A mapping catheter was inserted through the right femoral vein. An...

Use of Electroanatomic Mapping Systems beyond Electrophysiologic Studies

I have read with great interest the case presentation entitled ‘Utility of the NavX® Electroanatomic Mapping System for Permanent Pacemaker Implantation in a Pregnant Patient with Chagas Disease’ by Velasco et al. in a recent issue of the journal [1]. The authors have presented a pregnant with Chagas disease and complete AV block requiring pacemaker implantation and treated with a DDD mode pace...
